Complete Safety Solutions can help guide you through Part 46 or Part 48B, both of which require a total of 24 hours. The mine where you are going to work should be able to tell you which you need. Part 46 is limited to Shell Dredging, Sand, Gravel, Surface Stone, Surface Clay, Colloidal Phosphate, or Surface Limestone Mines. Part 48 is good for those plus any other surface mines and the surface areas of underground mines.

New Miner training has three distinct parts as listed below (both for Part 46 and Part 48). The biggest difference is that for part 48 the training must be done or monitored by an MSHA apporoved trainer. As a result, there are fewer options for how to complete that. Part 46 training must be done or monitored by anyone the company deems competent. Competency is usually expressed when the trainer knows the material and can communicate it to the new miner.

•  Training Plan
  Your company must have it's own MSHA Part 46 Training Plan. It is important to reference this while you are conducting or monitoring the training. If you do all the training but it doesn't satisfy your own plan that training may not count.
•  New Miner Intro Live Online
  Register for this Eduwhere Live Online course to complete the first 4 hours of your training. Classes are held regularly and you must attend the scheduled class.
•  New Miner Intro Online On Demand
  You can also use this course material to complete the first 4 hours of your training. If you use these materials you provide the trainer to be available for questions while the person being trained is studying the materials. There are evaluations throughout the materials and the course does not need to be completed in one sitting and can be started soon after registration.
•  First Aid / CPR Training Online
  We recommend National Safety Council courses if you're doing this online. You still may need to complete a short hands on session with an NSC trainer to be in full compliance. We can provide that training or you can check with NSC for a trainer local to you. The time for both is added to your 24 hours.
•  Remainder of 24 Hours
  We recommend the remainder of the 24 hours for part 46 be comprised largely of On-the-job Task Training. See your own plan on doing this or click the link above to email us for help. Be sure to document the training properly and that the total time of all the above training equals at least 24 hours.

Once the introduction is completed, the new miner may work where an experienced miner can observe that they are performing their work in a safe and healthful manner. Please ask us about additional requirements. We can help with those also.
